Arrhythmology is a relatively young specialty that has radically changed the content of academic and clinical cardiology over the past 20 years. Cardiac rhythm disorders are a pathology that occurs in children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly, and can be both congenital and acquired.

Causes of rhythm disorders include ischemic heart disease as well as numerous degenerative, inflammatory, and infiltrative diseases of the heart muscle. All rhythm disorders are divided into problems with low heart rate — bradycardia — and high heart rate — tachyarrhythmia. Both types can pose a life-threatening danger and are the most common cause of sudden death worldwide.

Until recently, the only solution for treating arrhythmias was drug therapy. A revolutionary breakthrough came with the advent of electrophysiological study technologies, which allow identification of the precise arrhythmia focus — which, like a power station, produces pathological electrical impulse discharges. During this procedure, the focus can not only be identified but also destroyed using the ablation method, resulting in a satisfied patient who no longer needs to take multiple antiarrhythmic medications.

In cases of heart rate falling below normal with the appearance of symptoms such as dizziness, weakness, and fainting, the arrhythmology department performs precise selection of pacemaker type and implantation with subsequent adjustment of their function. In this department, patients can achieve quality of life and longevity for many years without the need for heart transplantation, even in cases of severe heart failure.
